South Sound Librarians Meeting
December 10, 2008
Members present were Jennifer Sundheim, Serin Anderson, Erica Coe, Anna Salyer, Joyce Wiehagen, Charles Lord, Justin Wadland and David Johnson from University of Washington, Tacoma; Karen Jaskar from St. Martin’s College; Beth Bowden, Evelyn Lindberg, Shawn Moriarty, and Laura Robinson from Washington State Library; Kathleen Wolf from Pierce County Library; Genevieve Williams from Pacific Lutheran University; and Jeannie Fisher from Tacoma Public Library.
Justin Wadland and David Johnson presented a program entitled Tacoma Then & Again Re-photography Project, which they are currently working on in
conjunction with Stephen Cysewski. Justin applied for a grant to re-photograph Stephen Cysewski’s photographs of Tacoma taken in the late
1970s. Stephen Cysewski came back to Tacoma in July of 2008 and took photographs of the locations he had photographed in the 1970s. They hope
to have the project completed in the spring of 2009.
Jeanie Fisher, an Archivist, working in the Pacific Northwest Room of the Tacoma Public Library, gave a The South Sound Librarians met at Tacoma Public
Library on December 10, 2008 at 10 am. presentation on Tacoma Past & Present on the Library webpage. Tacoma Public Library
recently acquired archival photographs from the Western Washington Fair. There are over 50,000 images in the image archives. Other features
include a building index for Pierce County, a postcard database, and obituary index and northwest history.
Business Meeting
The main business was the election of a vice president and a recorder. Serin Anderson is the current Vice President and will become president. Jeanie
Fisher agreed to run for Vice President and Joyce Wiehagen and David Johnson agreed to run for Recorder. Paper ballots were submitted. The
results will be posted on the webpage.
Anna Salyer gave background information on the organization.
Jennifer Sundheim mentioned that a survey taken earlier in the year indicated that members wanted an informal organization.
Erica Coe asked for ideas for the webpage, and meeting places.
The next meeting will be held sometime around April.
