History of Catholic LiteratureFrom charles.keith@yale.edu Fri Jul 15 16:16:19 2005 Hi folks, I'm trying to track down a book and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. The book is Vo Long Te, Lich Su Van Hoc Cong Giao Viet Nam, volume 3. I was only able to find volume 1 in Vietnam (published in Saigon, 1965), and no library that I've checked (Cornell, BN in Paris) has volumes 2 or 3. At this point, I'm wondering whether the other volumes were ever written - the only indication that I have that they exist is that the edition I saw in Vietnam has the table of contents for all 3 volumes (the edition at Cornell doesn't). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks! Charles Keith
From dnfox@hamilton.edu Sun Jul 17 12:08:57 2005 This may be something of a long shot, but you might try contacting Tom Fox, who has spent his life engaged with both Vietnam and Catholicism, to see if he has a suggestion. thomascfox@gmail.com For what it's worth... good luck, Diane
From lfie@loc.gov Tue Jul 19 12:05:48 2005 Dear Charles, 1. The Library of Congress has only volume 1 of "Lich-su van-hoc Cong-giao Viet-Nam." From the introduction, the author, Vo Long Te, said, "Toan bo gom ba cuon, moi cuon rieng ve mot thoi ky cua van hoc Cong-giao Viet-Nam: The Table of content (Muc luc) is from page 301 to 307 at the end of the book, and with the phrase "the end of volume I." I found no Table of content for vol. II & III in this volume I. 2. The Library of Congress also has "The history of the Catholic Church in Vietnam" by Pham Phat Huon, 974 pages. Best wishes, Phone: (202)-707-5720
From sdenney@ocf.berkeley.edu Tue Jul 19 13:52:25 2005 I checked OCLC, the main cataloging source for libraries, and it listed Harvard, UC Berkeley, Yale, Library of Congress and ISEAS in Singapore as having it, but all had volume 1 only. I have not checked RLIN yet, which is the other main source for library cataloging. - Steve Denney |
