Donating & Transferring Collections
Special Collections welcomes gifts that fit into the collecting scope. To make a monetary gift, please see our funding priorities.
For Individuals and OrganizationsOur current collecting focus is the greater Seattle and Puget Sound region. Organizational donors may have a statewide, regional, or even a national mission, but usually have a strong tie with the local area as well. Consult Blynne Olivieri (206/543-1929 or blynne@uw.edu) to discuss gifts of personal or family papers and organizational records. Consult Nicolette Bromberg (206/543-1929 or nxb@u.washington.edu) to discuss gifts of photographs or moving images.
For University of Washington OfficesANNOUNCEMENT The University Archives Temporarily Suspends Transfers of Records into the Archives
The University Archives will temporarily suspend transfers of records into the Archives beginning on June 22, 2009. The suspension will run until October 5, 2009. The suspension is necessary because on-site storage capacity has been reached, and because budget cuts have prevented the replacement of key staff over the past year. The Archives staff will be processing a large backlog of records in order to free up space so that transfers to the Archives can resume in the fall. Over the summer, the Archives will also issue new guidelines for preparing records for transfer and will implement new electronic forms for submitting records transfer requests. Watch this space for updates. Once the electronic forms are posted, offices may begin to submit transfer requests—these requests will be processed in the order received beginning in fall quarter. If your situation is critical and you are not able to hold your records until the fall, please contact the University Archivist to discuss possible arrangements—DO NOT destroy or discard archival records. The University Archivist will be available for consultation with offices working on records cleanup over the summer in preparation for the resumption of transfers in the fall. Note that reference service will continue over the summer, and that records already in the University Archives will still be available to researchers in the reading room of Special Collections in the Allen Library. Update 7/13/2009 The Archives has implemented a new electronic form for submitting records transfer requests. The form is constructed as an Excel spreadsheet template-at the end of this announcement are instructions and a link to download the template, along with a link to a sample PDF document which can be used as a model for filling out the transfer form. Offices may begin using this form and submitting transfer requests to the Archives now-when physical transfers resume in fall quarter, the Archives will process the transfer requests in the order received. To save the template to your computer, right-click on the following link and choose: Save target as..., Save link as..., or Download linked file as... (the option depends on the browser you are using) and then save it to your computer.
