Born in 1838 in either New York, Massachusetts or Michigan (the record is unclear) she was a graduate of the State Normal School in Ypsilanti Michigan. She was President of the Territorial University of Washington from March thru August 1874 and was later Preceptress at the Ionia High School in Ionia, Michigan.
