   Arob@se journal des lettres & sciences humaines = a journal of literatures & human sciences. This French/English publication offers full-text articles, book reviews, and archive access.

  ARTFL project, University of Chicago Cooperative project (University of Chicago and l'Institute Nationale de la Langue Francaise) contains a database of French literature from the twelfth century to the twentieth century. Includes Diderot's Encyclopedie, various Bibles, and morphological programs. In French and English (UW Subscription).

CLCWEB: Comparative Literature and Culture, A WWWeb Journal Peer-refereed quarterly publishing scholarly articles in comparative cultural studies, "a contextual approach in the study of culture in all of its products and processes."

Ancient and Classical Literature

Biblioteca Classica Selecta (BCS): Une introduction bibliographique aux etudes classiques Jacques Poucet authors this Belgian site. Contains vast subject bibliographies on classical studies.

   Camelot project Arthurian texts, images, bibliographies, and basic information.

Diotima Scholarly site focuses on women and gender studies in ancient mediterranean civilization. Offers bibliographies, essays, and other research aids.

The Internet Classics Archive Offers full text searching of primarily Greek and Latin texts in English, with some Chinese and Persian works included.

The Labyrinth: Resources for Medieval Studies Links electronic resources in medieval studies including databases, special topics (e.g. medieval women). Links organized by subject, genre, language, bibliographies.

   Medieval Review TMR. Formerly the Bryn Mawr Medieval Review, this e-journal loads quickly, offers archives access, and offers its reviews via e-mail subscription. Eugene Vance of the University of Washington is on its advisory board.

   Perseus project an evolving digital library on ancient Greece Devoted to resources pertaining to the ancient world. Offers texts, translations, philogical tools, maps, and art. Contains lexical, morphological programs for ancient languages. Seventy museums contribute to this site.

Speculum. - UW restricted  Journal devoted to Medieval studies.

TC: A Journal of Biblical Textual Criticism Electronic journal focuses on Jewish and Christian biblical texts. Offers articles in scripts of original languages, archives, bibliography, and links to textual criticism.

Folklore and Mythology

Encyclopedia Mythologica-An Encyclopedia of mythology, folklore, and legend. On-line encyclopedia best used as a glossary/dictionary for mythological references. Indexed by culture of mythology and alphabetically.

Folklore and Mythology Electronic Texts Scholarly site alphabetically arranged by title of work and subject. Prepare for humorous entries from the "Bremen Town Musicians" to "Breaking Wind: Legendary Farts." Links to Germanic folklore site. Broad cultural emphasis.

Motif Index of Folk-Literature The online version of Stith Thompson's 6 volume classic work Motif-Index of Folk Literature: a Cassification of Narrative Elements in Folktales, Ballads, Myths, Fables, Mediaeval Romances, Exempla, Fabliaux, Jest-Books, and Local Legends. Printed edition located in Suzzallo Reference, GR67 T52 1955.

Multicultural and Dissident Literature

Minority Literatures Part of UCSB's Voice of the Shuttle, this site offers web links to general resources and to specific minority literatures.

MotsPluriels Electronic review journal in French and English. Offers full-text scholarly essays on a given theme for each issue. Archives available.


15th and 16th Century Literature

Early Modern Literary Studies: A Journal of Sixteenth and Seventeenth Century English Literature Scholarly electronic journal is an excellent source for other 16th and 17th century links, including a large number of links to Shakespeare resources.

Renaissance Forum Scholarly referreed electronic journal in early modern literary and historical scholarship.


17th and 18th Century Literature

  Eighteenth-century resources From Rutgers University, Jack Lynch offers comprehensive links to sites pertaining to the eighteenth century, broadly interpreted to include some information on seventeenth century authors. Coverage is best for English literature.

  Eighteenth-century studies. - UW restricted

English Literature - Early Seventeenth Century Provides texts of Milton, Donne, and others. Offers related images, essays, bibliographies, biographical information. Not a scholarly site, but author cites Norton Anthology of English Literature as her principal resource.


19th and 20th Century Literature

Bibliographer, Eddie Yeghiayan Homepage of bibliographer responsible for the UC Irvine Critical Theory lecture series, and related conference materials. For each author, a photo, list of publications by year, and biography is included; this is an excellent site for information on literary critics.

CTheory: Theory, Technology, Culture Weekly international journal edited by Arthur and Marilouise Kroker. Contains relatively short articles by writers such as Kathy Acker and Alan Shapiro. Provides back issue access. Also available by e-mail.

Cyber Review of Modern Historiography (CROMOHS) Italian electronic journal that focuses on historiography from the fifteenth century to the present; it pays particular attention to the relationship of technology to historiography. Available in Italian and English with access to archives.

Feminist Theory Page This site emphasizes feminism as a global presence, focusing on sixty two different countries. Categories include U.S. Feminism, ethnic and national feminism, and individual feminists.

An Index of Web Resources on Modernism Annotates sources related to modernism, including the Harlem Renaissance and Dadaist movement. Visual arts, general history, and selected electronic archive links included.

Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities Project integrates scholarhsip, technological research, and publishing to advocate humanities. Though it does not focus exclusively on twentieth century literature, it contains the on-line electronic journal "Postmodern Culture" along with reports of projects on subjects such as William Blake, virtual reality, and the history of Israel.

Modernism Timeline Summarizes by year significant literary events from 1890s to 1940s. Events are not hyperlinked, but this site includes additional WWW links and Modernism listserves.

  Romantic chronology Scholarly site details major literary events from the late eighteenth century to the mid nineteenth century on a timline by year. Offers a separate hypertext link archive for all persons,topics, events featured in the chronology.

Romanticism on the Net Scholarly electronic journal offers full text articles, additional links, and a "forum" where comments by readers are published.

Semiotics Elegant site devoted to semiotics. Provides links to readings, conferences, articles, and secondary sources on individuals including de Saussure, Bakhtin, and Locke.

Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy Homepage for professional organization dedicated to philosophical pluralism, including feminism and hermeneutics. Offers excellent links to related resources.

Theory & Event Quarterly theory journal offers essays, book reviews, and archives.
