Researching the Drama 101 Assignments

Acting scenes

  • Pick a play from the anthology or list provided by your TAs':

  • If you haven't read the plays, use a plot summary to decide which play you'll do

  • Read the play

  • Look for:

A balanced scene between two people

Don't do a dialect, if you have to learn it

Don't do a classical play written in poetic style

  • Keep it simple:
    • Decide the shape of the stage and where the audience is seated, e.g., Proscenium, thrust, and arena stages

    • Don't spend time worrying about props, furniture, or sound effects

    • find a place to rehearse

    • memorize the lines early - it makes rehearsing easier

  • CriticalReviews:

    • Read the play

    • Be familiar with the plot and major characters

    • Your TAs will give you an essay question

    • In order to answer the question you need to see the play and use examples from the production

    • More information will be added here when the questions for the assignment have been developed
