      • Contact the editor and let them know your areas of interest - send your resume
      • In most cases you get to keep the book you review
      • Reviews in scholarly journals are longer than reviews in library-related journals
      • Let the editor know you are interested in reviewing other books as well as sending out some of your articles
      • Many theatre and dance journals also have performance reviews; you can contact them as well
    • Use Book Review Index or Book Review Digest to compare different styles of review writing
    • Look at some reviews in Choice | notice their reviews are very brief and may be written by librarians rather than someone with background on the subject

  • Scholarly Journals | (Back to Top)
    • Editors for scholarly journals usually ask for a resume

    • Most reference books have a series or project editor
    • Announcements for contributors are usually sent out in newsletters, listserves, mailings to association members, or by word-of-mouth
    • You are sent guidelines which set specific criteria for margins, writing style, what the entry should cover, etc.
    • Make sure you return their request for bio information. The contributors are listed and most articles have your name at the end of any article you wrote
