LC SUBJECTS:  Furniture and Interior Decoration

Furniture is a very broad subject with many books. Notice there are Related Subjects, which deal with specific types of furniture, such as: bentwood furniture, or living room furniture.

You may also subdivide your subject and search for a specific century. Try a subject search for Furniture History
and you will see subdivisions like:
Furniture -- History -- 15th century
Furniture -- History -- 16th century
Furniture -- History -- 17th century

you may also subdivide a subject by geographic area:
Furniture -- Great Britain
Furniture -- United States

These same subdividions can be used on the
LC SUBJECT: Interior Decoration, is a broader subject.

The Art and the Architecture Urban Planning Librarieshave many books, which are good sources for furniture or interior decoration

  • black and white photography books offer pictures of homes of both the wealthy and the poor
  • portraits offer illustrations of both interior and exterior settings

Two other good areas, which provide descriptive information are found in the subdivisions of

-- Description and travel

-- Social life and customs

You search for these subdivisions under the geographic area, e.g.,

Russia -- Description and travel

Russia -- Social life and customs

Both of the examples above can be further subdivided by century.
