Use the following tools to identify articles in older journals. Some of these databases include the full text of articles, others provide only citations. If you do not find the full text of the article you are seeking, use the UW Libraries Catalog to determine if the particular journal you need is available in the libraries' collection.

• C19: Nineteenth Century Index - Series I and V only - UW restricted
  Indexes British and American publications from the 19th century and includes the electronic equivalent of Poole's index to periodical literature, The Wellesley index to Victorian periodicals, 1824-1900 and other sources pertaining to the 19th Century.
• American Periodicals Series Online, 1740-1900 - UW restricted
  Over 1,100 periodicals that first began publishing between 1740 and 1900, including special interest and general magazines, literary and professional journals, children's and women's magazines, and many other historically-significant periodicals.
• Humanities & Social Sciences Index Retrospective - UW restricted
  Cites articles from English-language periodicals from some of the best-known scholarly journals and numerous lesser-known but important specialized magazines from 1907-1984. Coverage includes a wide range of interdisciplinary fields covered in a broad array of humanities and social sciences.

Newspapers:

The UW Libraries has a basic collection of major U.S. newspapers on microfilm for the 19th and 20th centuries. We also have a strong collection of Northwest papers.
