"Edwin C. Bolles, professor of English at Tufts College (now Tufts University) in the late 19th century, assembled a substantial focused collection of materials on Victorian London. These materials include not only conventional print sources but many pieces that are unique or quite rare: folio descriptions of the city from limited print runs, contemporary 19th century maps in various shapes and formats, illustrations and prints from the 17th through the 19th century, that capture a precious (and now largely forgotten) record of how the British represented this city. The digital archive represents a comprehensive and integrated collection of sources and resources on the history and topography of London. Texts, images, and maps in the Bolles collection are all interconnected. Together they form a body of material, heterogeneous in form, but homogeneous in theme, that transcends the limits of print publication and exploits the flexibility of the electronic medium. "Boston Streets combines three heavily used resources in historical research libraries; photographs, maps, and city directories. Traditional city directories have been converted from paper resources to full-text searchable digital documents. As of August 2004, historic images of Boston from both The Bostonian Society (about 3000 images) and Tufts University (400 images) were scanned for use with the Boston Streets project. Overview maps and atlases of Boston ranging from 1844 to 1950 make up the bulk of the geographic resources included in the project. Orthographic images of modern day boston, and vector data from the boston redevelopment authority and MassGIS are use to ground the Boston in its modern context. The layering of historic maps and datasets of address points collected from those maps, show visually the changes in Boston's physical landscape as time progresses."

"Animated, same day view of satellite imagery. Landsat satellites provide a means for measuring the change in the amount of healthy vegetation, extent of damage and rate of regeneration following a forest fire, and various other applications of interest to professionals in the defense and agriculture industries. Since the launch of Landsat 1 in 1972, these satellites have continuously monitored the Earth. The USGS currently operates Landsat 5 and Landsat 7. These satellites contribute over 400 images per day to the EROS data archive. The EarthNow! Landsat Image Viewer displays the images in the 5, 4, 3 (Red, Green, Blue) band combination for both the TM and ETM sensors."
ECAI Iraq is a temporal-spatial portal into existing digital resources about history, cultural sites, archaeological excavations, and heritage preservation initiatives. Users can access these information sources using interactive, time-enabled thematic maps. The data, that can be displayed for the Iraqi and Mesopotamian material culture, is found on hundreds of web sites around the world. ECAI Iraq catalogs this material in a dynamic database and provides retrieval of information from these distant servers. Owners of these resources retain control of their content and the ability to update it at any time

The Japanese Historical Map Collection contains about 2,300 early maps of Japan and the World. The collection was acquired by the University of California from the Mitsui family in 1949, and is housed on the Berkeley campus in the East Asian Library. Represented in this online collection are about 100 maps and books from this Collection. The maps were selected by Yuki Ishimatsu, Head of Japanese Collections at the East Asian Library, and scanned and put online by David Rumsey and Cartography Associates. The project was initiated by Peter Zhou, Director of the East Asian Library. Funding and project management is provided by Cartography Associates and the East Asian Library

This digital map collection is scanned by the Digital Library Center from more than 300 city sets with more than 3,000 printed colored map sheets held in the Map and Imagery Library, George A. Smathers Libraries, University of Florida. These sets of maps were published by Sanborn between 1860 and 1923 to support insurance assessments for almost every Florida city and town and show many details such as size, shape and construction of buildings and other structures. The site is quite user-friendly, and the main maps contained on the site include thematic maps (at the county and state level) and interactive mapping (which contains tutorial exercises that introduce the basic concepts involved in geographic information systems). For users interested in utilizing the full capabilities of the site, the Metro Web GIS service area of the site allows users to look at the main metropolitan regions in the state, and to customize the themes (such as churches, golf courses, and hospitals) to their preferences. Another helpful feature of the Metro Web service is that as users zoom into any particular locale, the topographic maps change to aerial photograph overlays. For those seeking a wealth of information, spatial and otherwise, about the state of Tennessee, this Web site will be much appreciated.
