Characters

Three sample character cards. Each of the 19 students in the class randomly choose a character. These characters were primarily American or British (with one lone Canadian). Characters ranged in age from 13 to 48.

	Ernest Hitchens Ernest Hitchens became a pilot during World War I. He was later shot down by the Germans and imprisoned in a POW camp.
	Henry Lewis Henry Lewis joined the Chicago 8th Illinois National Guard and was sent down to Camp Logan in Houston Texas. He later fought and was wounded during the Meuse-Argonne Campaign.
	Viola Williams Viola Williams left Baltimore seeking a better life in Chicago. She later became an active member of the National Colored Women's Club and an anti-lynching crusader.
