Primary authors are those who are deemed by critics, awards, and researchers to be major writers. They have been, are now, or likely to be taught by UW academic programs or the objects of scholarly research and publications. Within budgetary limitations, the UW Libraries' Nordic Area Specialist will attempt to acquire full or representative collections of these authors. Budgetary limitations do not permit the acquisition of mystery literature, science fiction, or popular literature. (See the collection development policy for Nordic collections)

Please note that when searching for Finnish authors in the University of Washington Library Catalog you should use the letters e, a, and o instead of é, ä, ö, and å. The link for each author's name will take you to the holdings by that author in the library catalog.

The phrases Kootut Teokset and Samlade Verk (or Samlade Skrifter) mean Collected Works. If you do not see an individual title listed in the catalog and the library owns the collected works of that author, it is possible that the title you are searching for is included in the collected works and therefore not listed separately in the catalog. Please check the shelf for specific holding information.
