Environment
Environmental Impact Statements (EIS)
EIS's are reports that document information required to evaluate the environmental impact of a project. It informs decisionmakers and the public of the reasonable alternatives that would avoid or minimize adverse impacts or enhance the quality of the environment. Required of federal agencies by the National Environmental Policy Act and often required of state and local agencies as well. The UW Libraries has a strong collection of these for the PNW dating from 1970s to present as well as EIS's for projects nationwide. Often issued first in draft form for public comment and then revised as a Final EIS. BOTH editions will be important to use since not all information from the Draft EIS is repeated in a Final EIS. Search the UW Libraries Catalog combining 'environmental impact statement' with a geographic or topical keyword.
