The items in this bibliography can help you find information on your
research topic. Many are available electronically through the World Wide Web. Many of the databases listed here are available through the web. UW Only means that in order to use a database from your home computer you must either connect to this page using the UW Connectivity Kit (UWICK) or the libraries proxy server.
Background sources such as encyclopedias and country profiles provide brief overviews of a topic and can be used to identify key people, events and dates. Many also include short bibliographies.
- Britannica Online
- Online version of the Encyclopedia Britannica. UW Only.
- Country Profiles - Economist Intelligence Unit
- Annual report focusing on current economic conditions in various countries including Chile and Mexico. Located in the periodicals section of the Foster Business Library.
- Country Studies
- Book length profiles covering the history, economy, political structure, etc. of more than 70 countries including Chile (1994) and Mexico (1996).

Use the following databases to locate books (and journal subscriptions) in the UW Libraries and in

Indexes: Finding Articles
Use indexes/abstracts/bibliographies to find articles (and sometimes books, dissertations, government reports, etc.) on a topic. Most indexes are arranged by subject or include a subject index. There are indexes covering all sorts of subjects, use those which best fit your research topic.
Additional electronic indexes for specific
disciplines can be found on the Information Gateway, Find It By
Subject or you can browse the alphabetical list of
databases.
To locate printed bibliographies search the UW Libraries catalog:
- Choose the Keywords Search
- Type in your topic keyword(s) and the following phrase -- and su:bibliography
- Example:
- nafta and su:bibliography
Once you identify articles you need make sure you have the complete citation (author, title, journal name, volume, pages and year), then look in the UW Libraries Catalog for the journal name (do a title search for the journal name to see if the UW subscribes) to see if and where the journal is kept (library location and call number).
