Kenneth S. Allen Library Endowment Fund

Kenneth Allen and Paul AllenThe purpose of the Endowment is to enhance the Libraries' ability to acquire, supplement and maintain library collections and programs.

Kenneth S. Allen began his career with the University Libraries in 1951, and was Associate Director of the Libraries from 1960-1982.

Paul G. Allen, Kenneth's son, created this endowment in his honor.

When asked, Paul stated "The best advice I've received came many years ago from my father. He told me that you should love whatever work you do, you should try to find something you truly enjoy. And I've been lucky through the years that the work I've been involved with has been challenging and for the most part, fun."

Allen co-founded Microsoft Corporation with Bill Gates in 1975 and served as the company's executive vice president of research and new product development, the company's senior technology post, until 1983.

Allen gives back to the community through the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, which supports arts, medical, forest protection and other charitable needs in the Pacific Northwest.

He is the founder of Experience Music Project (EMP), a music museum dedicated to creativity and innovation in Seattle, and Clear Blue Sky Productions, also in Seattle.

About endowments
An endowment is a permanent fund of support for which the principal of the gift is invested and grows over time. The endowment makes distributions on a quarterly basis to support the purpose specified. The endowed fund can be named to honor a special person or specific area of need for the Libraries.

Endowments are forever
With the creation of an endowment, you have the chance to build a strong foundation for the University Libraries, now and in the future. Endowment gifts are extremely valuable in enhancing the quality of the University Libraries, since they provide a constant resource regardless of state funding.
