![]() Summer OlympicsThe summer Olympic Games are an international multi-sport event held every four years. The first Olympic Games can be traced back to 776 BC. The ancient games included running, long-jump, eqestrian events , boxing, javelin, shot put, and pankration. The games continued for 12 centuries until Emperor Theodosius decreed in 393 AD that all such ‘pagan cults’ be banned. Baron de Coubertin revived the games when he founded the International Olympic Committee in 1894. Two years later, the first modern Olympics were held in Athens, Greece. The 2008 summer Olympic Games held in Beijing, China on August 8-24 will feature 302 events in 28 sports.
