You are going to play the role of a researcher in a variety of fields of study. Look for the information requested for each task and write the answer in the space provided. During each task make sure to “think aloud.”

  1. You are taking Psychology 101: Introduction to Psychology. Your professor has assigned a research paper on a topic of your choosing.   3. You are studying biology. You are in Biology 101: General Biology. Once again you have been assigned a research paper. The professor wants you to write a paper on any current topic in biology.   4. You have decided to study art. You are taking Art History 203: Survey of Modern Western Art, which covers Western art from 1520 to the present. You want to learn more about your favorite artist, Vincent Van Gogh, for your final paper. You professor wants you to write about current research in the field, so she requires that your resource be less than 5 years old. Write the title of the resource and where you found it below.

  5. Now, you have changed paths a little bit and decided to try engineering. You are enrolled in Engineering 100: Introduction to Engineering Design. You think you might be interested in thermodynamics, the study of heat transfer and energy and you have to write a report on current research on a topic in engineering.   6. Engineering didn’t quite work out and now you are studying business. You are in Economics 200: Introduction to Microeconomics. You are enjoying the lectures on supply and demand and think the class is going well. Then the professor assigns a big paper for your final project.   8. For your final task, you are a new computer science student. You are enrolled in Computer Science and Engineering 142: Computer Programming I. In addition to all of the programming you have to do, the professor wants you to write a short research paper on a new development in computer science.
