Grad and Faculty Task List - Forest Resources

Undergrad | History Grad | Forest Resources

You are going to play the role of researcher in your field…it shouldn’t be too much of a stretch to play yourself. Below is a series of four tasks that ask you to find resources that you might use for different research scenarios. Look for the information requested for each task and write the answer in the space provided. During each task make sure to “think aloud.”

  1. You are researching new techniques in paper pulping, specifically developments in chemicals used in the pulping process. Find two resources pertinent to your research in developments in the chemistry of the pulping process. Write the title of the resources and where you found them below. Finally, rate how well you feel your resources fit your research objective (1-10, with 10 being the best).

  2. You are researching the efficiency of paper production using a recycled paper supply. You are particularly interested in the breakdown of the paper fibers and how to maximize the lifespan of recycled paper fibers. Find two resources on the topic of the paper recycling process and secondary fibers. Write the title of the resources and where you found them below. Finally, rate how well you feel your resources fit your research objective (1-10, with 10 being the best).

  3. You are interested in the water quality in areas near paper plants. Accordingly, you are researching the environmental issues related to paper production and run-off from plants. Find two resources pertinent to your research in environmental issues facing paper plants. Write the title of the resources and where you found them below. Finally, rate how well you feel your resources fit your research objective (1-10, with 10 being the best).

  4. You are researching the chemical and fiber composition of genetically engineered trees. You want to determine if there is a significant difference between the composition of modified and non-modified trees, and more importantly how any difference might require changes in the paper production process. Find two resources pertinent to your research on the effect of genetic engineering on the paper process. Write the title of the resources and where you found them below. Finally, rate how well you feel your resources fit your research objective (1-10, with 10 being the best).
