Searching for phrases

Sometimes you might want to search for an exact phrase, such as:

  • international relations

  • international trade

  • Great Britain

  • Ivory Coast

Using an Internet search engine, you would enclose the phrase in quotation marks:

  • "international relations"

  • "international trade"

  • "Great Britain"

  • "Ivory Coast"

Phrase searching in periodical databases varies. Some databases use quotation marks for phrases. While others do not. Check the help screens for the particular database you are using.
