Finding Primary Sources

How do you find primary sources?

1. Find your organization's web site

Use google or your favorite search engine. Look through the web site for items such as the organization's annual report, mission statement, and other types of sources. Each of these counts as a primary source for your project.

You need at least 2 primary sources for your project!

2. Use the UW Libraries Catalog

Use the UW Library Catalog to find books, reports, and other items published by your organization. Do an author search and type in the name of your organization. Sources published by your organization may be considered primary sources for your project

Not sure whether a source is a primary source? Ask your TA or ask a librarian!

What is a primary source?

"In the context of this project, a primary source is data where the organization is representing itself. This could be a speech by the director, an annual report, a mission statement, an interview you have done with someone in the organization, or some other source wher you get information directly from the organization itself."
