Combining ideas (1 of 3)

When you want to find more than one word or idea, you need to enter your search in a way that the database will understand. Using connector words such as AND and OR are how you can combine concepts or synonyms.

AND

If you want to find articles containing two or more ideas, connect the words in your search with AND.

  • Using AND between your search terms means that both terms must appear somewhere in the record.

  • Using AND will narrow your search.

The search international trade AND france would find articles that have information on both ideas. If the article only had one of these terms it would not have been retrieved.

You can use AND many times in a single search.

How would you add agriculture to the search above?

a. international trade and France and agriculture
b. international trade and France agriculture
c. international trade in France and agriculture
