Background Tools

This tool should help you locate background information to start your research. This information will help you:

  • identify major eras in your region's economic, political, and social history. Knowing a country's historic eras will help you to focus on periods of greatest change, periods about which you may be able to find more information.

  • identify the names of other major regions or countries in the area's history, especially those whose activities had an important impact on change.

  • gather key terms and concepts relevant to your research, enabling you to seek out information later that will help you develop your paper.

  • generate and articulate questions that you will need to answer to guide your research in appropriate directions.
