Introduction

After completing this toolkit, you should be able to:

• Describe the publication cycle in international studies scholarship and describe how it affects access to information.

• Identify different types of information sources, such as books, scholarly journals, reference works, and government publications.

• Know the characteristics of different types of information sources

• Be able to distinguish between popular magazines and scholarly journals

• Identify search tools such as library catalogs and databases that you can use to find different information sources on specific topics.

Look at the following types of information sources. Many of these sources are available online, but some are available only in print. Be sure to ask a librarian if you have any questions about information sources!
