Newspapers allow you to track a story over time, observing such factors as changing perspectives and the build-up to critical moments. Reading newspaper stories of the same event from papers in different parts of the world may reveal varying regional or national interests and varying cultural perspectives that "flavor" or "spin" stories for local readers. Newspaper stories have a unique structure called pyramid writing. This puts the latest information or developments at the beginning of an article, followed by progressively less current information until the last portion of the article which may provide a sweeping retrospective of an entire event or issue. If you want newspaper stories published at the time of an event in history, it is possible to find newspapers on microfilm from over 100 years ago. Here are some examples:
