Books

Many of the books in university libraries are published by university presses or other publishers who publish books by scholars. Scholars in international studies are professors and researchers from many fields:

  • Anthropology

  • Economics

  • History (this discipline is a major focus for SIS 200)

  • International Relations

  • Political science

  • Sociology

  • other related disciplines.

Books take longer to write, get published, and read. This normally makes them poor sources for up-to-date information about topics or events. They are best for either broad overviews or extremely in-depth analysis of the type that takes time for both writer and reader to digest. Most will include bibliographies pointing to further resources on the topics covered.

Here are some examples of academic books in international studies:

How do you find books on your topic?

  • Use the UW Libraries Catalog

  • Use book databases such as OCLC WorldCat

  • Ask a librarian if you need help
