$16.69 per hour


10-19 hours per week

Schedule will include evening and/or weekend shifts.


Performs stacks maintenance tasks and assists library users at the HSL Information Desk under the supervision of the Manager, HSL User Experience Operations. Duties include:

Off desk daily tasks:

  • Performs daily duties such as shelving and retrieving materials for library users
  • Retrieve and return items from outdoor book drop
  • Shelf read stacks for proper call number order. Occasional shifting of materials.
  • Search for missing items. Help with weeding lists
  • Help keep the library tidy and welcoming for users
  • Assist staff with projects and general office duties

Information Desk:

  • Staff the Information Desk on a regular basis.
  • Troubleshoot public printer/scanner issues and basic tech support
  • Circulate library materials, check items in and out for users
  • Use bibliographic tools and web-based resources to assist users with basic reference help
  • Provides library users with information about UW, library policies, services, and procedures
  • Maintain the safety and security of library users, including clearing the library at closing
  • May occasionally be responsible to open/close the library if staff are unavailable
  • Report facilities issues to staff

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Reliable attendance
  • Good customer service skills
  • Ability to lift, carry and handle up to 36 pounds of library materials on a regular basis
  • Ability to push carts containing library materials using up to 40 pounds of force
  • Help foster an equitable and welcoming environment for a diverse group of people, including UW users and the general public
Desired Qualifications:
  • Have a passion for library work and an interest in the Health Sciences
  • Previous library experience is helpful
