Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Duties:

Reporting primarily to the Marketing and Sales Director, the Marketing Assistant provides support for the marketing of 50-60 new books and a backlist of more than 3,200 active press-owned and distributed titles. The position assists the entire marketing team with a wide variety of tasks aimed at increasing the efficiency of the press's overall marketing and sales operations.

Position responsibilities:

  • Executes tasks, as directed, to meet overall sales and marketing strategies and goals:
  • Assists with review copy mailings, press release mailings, email campaigns, author events, and conference exhibits.
  • Assists with the writing, editing, and proofreading of sales, marketing, and publicity materials.
  • Coordinates award submissions.
  • Processing book reviews.
  • Maintains media database.
  • Reserves advertisement space and coordinates contracts and placement.
  • Handles exam and desk copy requests.
  • Inputs data into press's title management system (Allbooks).
  • Participates in planning and executing social media strategy and activity.
  • Communicates with authors and sales representatives, as needed.
  • Provides general administrative support to the Marketing and Sales Director.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Excellent organizational and project-management skills; ability to multi-task.
    • Superior oral and written communication skills.
    • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and working with databases.
    • Ability and desire to work both independently and cooperatively in a highly collaborative office environment.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience in book publishing, especially with a university or trade press.
    • Proficiency with Adobe design programs InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
    • Familiarity with HTML.

    Other Details:

    Students will gain real world marketing experience to supplement their course work in this area of study. They will play an active role in executing UW Press's social media, direct marketing, and publicity activities, and will complete the position with a portfolio of sample work to showcase their efforts.
