Up to 19.5 hours per week. Schedule variable.


  • Under the general supervision of the Head of Library Information Technology, assist and instruct Library patrons in the use of computer software and hardware. (For example: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat, web editing , scanning, printing, and file transfer applications)

  • Assist the Head of Library IT with maintenance of several PHP/MySQL applications.

  • Circulate and assist in the maintenance of circulating laptop computers and other technology checked out at the LARC service desk.

  • Provide in-person and telephone technical support for other Learning Commons computing needs such as assisting patrons with printing, computer logons, room reservations, and wi-fi logons.

  • Provide in-person and telephone technical support for on and off-campus access to resources.

  • Assist in the maintenance of and re-imaging of computer workstations in the Learning Commons and all staff computers in the Library.

  • Assist the Head of Library IT with web design and maintenance for both the Library web site and the Learning Commons web site .

  • Other duties as assigned.

    • A strong commitment to providing high quality customer service

    • Ability to learn new software and adapt to the changing needs of the UWT Library and Learning and Research Commons.

    • Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office including, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

    • A strong commitment to building an anti-racist, anti-oppression workplace.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot computer hardware/software/connectivity problems.
    • Experience working independently and collaboratively to resolve issues and provide support.
    • Familiarity with HTML, PHP/MySQL, and Java.

    Additional information:

    The Tacoma Campus Library features more than 150 computers, most with Microsoft Windows, Office 2013, Internet access, and other programs and applications to support student and faculty research. In addition, there are multiple scanning workstations, several adaptive technology workstations, and a fee-based print service.

    This position will work closely with Library and Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) staff to provide service in support of UW Tacoma student technology needs in the Learning and Research Commons (LARC). This position will be required to work on the Learning and Research Commons service desk and provide technology support for staff and students in the LARC. Additionally, this position will be required to check out equipment using the Library’s circulation system.
