Change to Libraries fine policy for renewable materials begins September 25

User feedback led to change. September 25, 2017

Beginning September 25, 2017 Libraries renewable materials – standard loan items with loan periods of 6 days or more – will not be fined; however, failure to renew or return and item after it is 20 days overdue will result in the item being billed to the borrower as lost.

To avoid receiving a bill for renewable items, borrowers must renew within 20 days of the due date.

Lost item charges for renewable Standard Loans may include the following:

    • $30 lost item process fee
    • $150 or more item replacement fee (see Replacement Charges for more information, including Summit replacement costs).

The previous policy began charging fines immediately after the due date for standard renewable materials.

Fines for Non-renewable items, reserves, recalled materials, as well as damaged and replacement fees remain unchanged.

As always, standard renewable items may be renewed online.

    See the Libraries’ fines policy.

This change is in response to faculty and student feedback gathered through the 2016 Libraries Triennial Survey. User feedback is instrumental to changes to Libraries’ policies, programs and spaces. We appreciate the input and suggestions we have received from UW faculty, students and staff.
