Title

Title: searchable, public; required

 

Descriptive title of work to be assigned by the cataloger based on subject of the drawing. It should include information in the following order: name of structure taken from the artifact (architectural drawing or rendering), the location in parenthese (Seattle, Wash.) and parts represented. If the specific name of the structure is unidentified, the title may include other identifiers, such as building type, location, or anything else of significance in identifying the subject.

Titles belonging to a group of images from the same drawing set should begin with the same character set (e.g. Northern Life Tower, ….) in order to group the thumbnails for Contentdm presentation.

Examples:

Northern Life Tower (Seattle, Wash.), south elevation Residence with carriage house (Seattle, Wash.), first and second floor plans

LC Authority

Other name of a structure or building if different from name provided in Title Field.

Architectural firm

Creator: searchable, public

LC Authority

The name of the corporate body responsible for the creation of the design of the item. Use LC Authority File for form of name, if available. For unknown creators, enter Unknown. The names of the individual architects belonging to the firm can be entered into the additional “Creator” fields.

If the Creator is determined from a resource other than the item, create a Note.

Familiar names or variation of names of corporate bodies should be noted in the Notes Field.

The name (s) of the individual (s) responsible for the creation of the design of the item. Input lastname, firstname or the corporate body name. Use LC Authority File for form of name, if available. Multiple names are okay; separate multiple names with <br>. For unknown creators, enter Unknown.

If the Creator is determined from a resource other than the item, create a Note.

Associate architects

The name of the associate individual or the corporate body responsible for the creation of the design of the item. Input lastname, firstname or the corporate body name. Use LC Authority File for form of name, if available. Multiple names are okay; separate multiple names with <br>.

Engineers

Name of the engineer or firm responsible for creating the item. Input lastname, firstname or the corporate body name. Use LC Authority File for form of name, if available. Multiple names are okay; separate multiple names with <br>. If none, leave blank.

Artist

Creator: searchable, public

LC Authority File

The name of the artist responsible for creating the item, used especially for architectural renderings. Input lastname, firstname or the corporate body name. Use LC Authority File for form of name, if available. If none, leave blank.

Client

Creator: searchable, public

LC Authority File

The name of the client who commissioned the work. Input lastname, firstname or the corporate body name. Use LC Authority File for form of name, if available.

Date of drawing execution

Date: searchable, public

 

The time period the drawing was made. Enter span dates which are inclusive of all revisions represented on item. Dates are recorded as single years. If undated, input circa date. (ca. 1900). Months and days are noted in the Descriptive Notes Field.

Dates

Date: searchable, staff-only field; required field

 

Reflects the Date of Drawing Execution field. If the date is a single year, it is the same in both the Date and the Dates fields. If the date in the Date field is a "circa" date (e.g. ca. 1895), the Dates field contains the expanded version so that searching will find dates covered by the concept of a "circa" date. Five years on either side of the "ca." date is the preferred form.

Earliest date

Reflects the Date of Drawing Execution field. If the date is a single year, it is the same in both the Date of Drawing Execution and the Earliest Date fields. Input using ISO 8601 format (YYYY, or YYYY-MM, or YYYY-MM-DD as needed).

Latest date

None: not searchable, staff-only field; required field

 

Reflects the Date of Drawing Execution field. If the date is a single year, it is the same in both the Date of Drawing Execution and the Latest Date fields. Input using ISO 8601 format (YYYY, or YYYY-MM, or YYYY-MM-DD as needed).

Building street address

Description: searchable, public

 

Address of the structure or building. Use abbreviations for Street (St.) and Avenue (Ave.). If not known, input Unknown.

Building location

Coverage: searchable, public/staff field

 

The spatial characteristics of the intellectual content of the resource. Spatial coverage refers to a physical region. Places names are taken from the LC Authority File or another controlled list. Input in hierarchical format.

AAT

Describes the circumstances for the creation of the project (e.g. working construction, academic, competition); and the project’s specific stage or phase of the building design or construction .Use terminology from AAT.

Includes the transcription of the inscription, handwritten or printed words that appear on the item, such as, dates, captions, client names, dimensions, geographic location, scale. Original word order, punctuation, spelling should be retained.
