New Staff, Ian Chapman

Introducing a new staff

Dr. Ian Chapman has joined the East Asia Library as China Studies Reference and Instruction Specialist starting Monday June 17, 2019. Ian’s background is in interdisciplinary Chinese studies, mainly premodern. He has spent the last several years teaching language, literature, history, and religion courses in UW’s Asian Languages and Literature and History Departments as well as in the Jackson School. He has a PhD in Chinese history from Princeton University and recently earned his MS/LIS from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Outside his professional life, he enjoys hanging out with his wife and young daughter and running and riding in the Seattle rain, and hopes one day to resume haunting cinemas and playhouses. He is excited to be transitioning from library lover to library professional and looks forward to working with new colleagues in the East Asia Library and across the UW Libraries.
