Obtaining Scan Copies

There are several options a patron can choose from when deciding how to obtain a copy of their scan. Regardless of the option the patron uses to obtain their scan copies, make sure to remind them that all documents on the computer will be lost after 10 minutes of inactivity.

Saving to a Thumb Drive

Patrons can save digital copies of their scans to a thumb drive that they bring with them.

  • After you are ready to scan and click the ‘Scan’ button, a ‘File Save Settings’ box will open.
  • Choose the ‘Other’ option and find ‘My Computer’.
  • Choose your electronic storage device from the drop down menu.

Sending the Scan via Email

If the patron does not have a thumb drive but wants a digital copy of their scan, sending the scan via email is the best option.

  • After you are ready to scan and click the ‘Scan’ button a ‘File Save Settings’ box will open.
  • Choose the ‘Desktop’ option.
  • Once the file is scanned it will appear on the desktop of the computer. Open the file.
  • Click on ‘File’ on the top menu bar and choose ‘Attach to Email’ from the drop-down menu.
  • An Email client will open.  Put the appropriate Email address in the ‘To’ category and press ‘Send’.
  • After you have sent the file via Email, make sure to tell the patron to check that they received it. They can do this by opening a web browser and checking the Email they sent the file to.

Printing

Patrons also have the option of printing to most printers in UW Libraries.

  • After you are ready to scan and click the ‘Scan’ button a ‘File Save Settings’ box will open.
  • Choose the ‘Desktop’ option.
  • Once the file is scanned it will appear on the desktop of the computer. Open the file.
  • Click on ‘File’ on the top menu bar and choose ‘Print’ from the drop-down menu.
  • To Print to Allen Lobby choose the appropriate option beginning with ALLEN_SUZZALLO. This is the most common option, but the patron may choose to print to any of the listed printers.
