Fuyo-Kai Fulcrum

Fuyo-Kai Fulcrum. Fuyo Kai, Acc. 4363, UW Libraries Special Collections.

Only one issue remains of the Fuyo Kai Fulcrum in the archives of the University of Washington. Volume 1, Number 1 was published and distributed on February 6, 1942 and edited by Teresa Honda. According to the Fuyo Kai minutes of January 11, 1942, "the cabinet decided to resume the publication of the Fuyo Kai paper to be distributed at the Friday monthly meetings."

This issue of the Fulcrum is a typical student organization paper with features on the initiation of new members (required to wear curlers, sing the Alma Mater and do skits), fashion, and quarterly honor role. The war creeps in only ocassionally with an article on Floyd Schmoe's work with the American Friends Service committee, a beauty contest -- Queen of the draftees, and the solicitation to buy war stamps.
