Art Periodical Indexes and Abstracts

  • Art Abstracts (1984- ) and Art Index Retrospective (1929-1984) 
    Indexes the major visual arts periodicals. Art Index Retrospective covers the years 1929-1984; Art Abstracts 1984 to present, with abstracts beginning in 1995. Search both at once by clicking the appropriate boxes at the top of the search page.
  • Bibliography of the History of Art, 2008-
  • Bibliography of the History of Art, -2007 (BHA) The name BHA has been used informally to refer to a group of databases: RAA, RILA, BHA, and IBA. The data available on the Getty Web site as of April 1, 2010, comprises two databases: BHA and IBA. BHA (Bibliography of the History of Art/Bibliographie d'histoire de l'art) covers the years 1990-2007; the Getty Web version includes all records with abstracts in French or English and all subject terms in French and English. IBA (International Bibliography of the History of Art) covers 2008 and part of 2009; the Getty Web version includes all records with abstracts in English and all subject terms in French and English. A third database will be added to the Getty Web site during the coming months: RILA (Répertoire de la litterature de l'art), which covers 1975–1989. At present, the Getty has no plans to add RAA (Répertoire d'art et d'archéologie), which covers 1973–1989.
  • Design and Applied Arts Index (DAAI)
    Design and Applied Arts Index (DAAI) is the leading source of abstracts and bibliographic records for articles, news items, and reviews published in design and applied arts periodicals from 1973 onwards. DAAI covers both new designers and the development of design and the applied arts since the mid-19th century, surveying disciplines including ceramics, glass, jewellery, wood, metalsmithing, graphic design, fashion and clothing, textiles, furniture, interior design, architecture, computer aided design, Web design, computer-generated graphics, animation, product design, industrial design, garden design, and landscape architecture. Around 1200 new records are added in each monthly update.
  • Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
    Indexes more than 1,000 periodicals on architecture, archaeology, city planning, interior design, and historic preservation, with coverage beginning in 1934
  • Art and Archaeology Technical Abstracts
    Abstracts 400 leading journals relevant to the international conservation field and heritage management

  • Camio
    CAMIO (Catalog of Art Museum Images Online) presents high-quality digital images, text and multimedia to document works of art from around the world. Contains about 90,000 artworks from the collections of prominent museums. A wide range of media are included: painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, and the decorative arts.
  • Grove Art Online
    Over 45,000 signed articles on every aspect of the visual arts from prehistory to the present day. Covers both the fine arts (painting, sculpture, and architecture) and the decorative arts (ceramics, textiles, jewellery, interior design, furniture, glass, metalwork, and more). Includes bibliographical citations, art images, and links to images on other art sites.
  • Index of Christian Art
    An index to artworks produced in the western world from late antiquity up to A.D. 1400. Includes over 20,000 work of art records with images in color and black/white, representing a wide range of media.
  • Rhizome.org
    An online platform for the global new media art community. Programs support the creation, presentation, discussion and preservation of contemporary art that uses new technologies in significant ways.
